Giving Guelph's favourite small batch bakery an edgy yet colourful look inspired by old horror movies and Las Vegas neon lights.
Rebranding Killer Cupcakes is part of my weekly design series where I reimagine local brands in the city to push my creative boundaries while also promoting my brand and Guelph local businesses.
My goal for the project was to give the bakery a cohesive visual identity that highlighted the uniqueness of their name and the brand's humorous tone of voice. 
Their website also describes the brand's aesthetic as "old Las Vegas meets B-movies," so I embraced the challenge of interpreting that visual style into a distinctive and engaging design.
Monstrous
The issue with their current logo is that it doesn’t do their name justice, even when paired with the mascot icon. The uniqueness of their name sparks curiosity among those seeing their shop for the first time, so the logo should match its absurdity.
My solution was to create a bold and edgy logo that captures the monstrous energy of their name. The wordmark is complemented by a favicon featuring a simplified version of their cupcake mascot, designed to align with the style of the letterforms.
Iconic
I used the face of the cupcake monster as the brand's recurring motif. It is a playful, versatile, and iconic symbol that can be integrated into marketing strategies, packaging, and other customer touchpoints to reinforce brand identity for returning customers and enhance visibility for potential ones.
Vibrant
Inspired by Las Vegas neon lights against the night sky, I added pops of bright colours to their dark and gloomy primary colours. These colours could also be used to reinforce their brand identity to their customers, especially when paired with the face motif. If someone sees a brightly coloured cupcake box decorated with their monster face icon, they can easily associate it with Killer Cupcakes.
