Motion Graphics
A collection of fun motion graphics and animation made for Bachelor of Design Untitled Grad Show.
In collaboration with the BDES Class of 2024, I was responsible for creating motion graphics for the event’s social media pages and venue projector screen. The goal was to give each character in the show a quirky personality, showcasing the class's uniqueness and creativity while enhancing our social media presence and elevating the overall experience of the event.
To tackle this project, I created a series of animations that can be used on all my deliverables. I created a total of 7 traditional animations featuring all the characters of the show, which were then used on the social media post and the projector screen motion graphic deliverables.
Character Animation Collection
For launch day posts and projector graphics, I aimed to make them feel like the final evolution of grad show's branding. Animating the characters interacting with each other felt like a natural choice. To ensure the animations worked both individually and as a cohesive set, I treated them like TV ad bumpers and made them loop seamlessly. I used traditional animation in Procreate, adding a touch of authenticity to the final product.
One of the challenges I faced was figuring out how to make the characters interact with each other in a fun and engaging way. What I did was I used the character's names and features to create assume each of their personalities. From there, I imagined how they would interact with each other. I also added a sprinkle of inside joke within the animations, making each of them feel personal to the graduating class.
Social Media Animation
I was tasked to create a fun motion graphic for the grad show's Instagram page on the day of the event. The purpose of the animation was to hype up our attendees coming to the show, as well as to attract potential last-minute attendees who may be have been intrigued by the motion graphic.
Projector Animation
For our grad show, we aimed to enhance the venue and create a more immersive experience. I proposed utilizing the venue’s projector screen to showcase a mini commercial introducing the designers and highlighting their best work from the program. This not only elevated the attendee experience but also became a celebratory montage of our collective hard work and dedication.
I designed the motion graphics template and then distributed it to my classmates, allowing them to fill in their own introductions and helping to lighten my workload. I organized the intros alphabetically and inserted my animations as bumpers between them. The final product played on loop throughout the entire event.
I had a great time bringing Mercedes and Yomna's characters to life. My classmates were pleased with the final product, and attendees were delighted and surprised by the creativity of the motion graphics. The chair of the school's Creative Industries department was so impressed with the projector animation that he asked the program coordinator to use it to promote our program.
